ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Received the 2017 CUBE Annual Award for Urban School Board Excellence

  • Creates the annual Legislative Agenda for the Shelby County Board of Education which outlines the legislative priorities of Shelby County Schools.

  • Provides over $1 million dollars directly to schools each year through in collaboration with the Board Member School Strategic School Allocations Program providing funds directly to schools to enhance student learning, teacher appreciation, administrative support, and professional advancement. The Board has allocated more than $3.3 million in total funds to schools.

  • Maintains adequate training in education advocacy, student equity, and boardsmanship as members of the Tennessee School Board Association, Council of Urban Boards of Education, the Nation School Boards Association, and the Council of the Great City Schools.

  • Sponsored the Students Storm the Hill Program where students advocate before State Leaders for their peers.

  • Provided guidance to revamp the District’s College, Career & Technical Education (CCTE) program to increase certification opportunities for students.

  • Approved the construction of two new 21 st century schools.

  • Conducts yearly community meetings to receive public input regarding the annual budget and potential school consolidations.

  • Approved revisions to Policy 5013 Promotion and Retention to ensure district and school leaders, teachers, and all stakeholders are held accountable towards ensuring SCS students have the necessary reading skills to be successful before they reach the third grade. Thus, launching the Third Grade Commitment campaign and plan.

  • Advocates for continued investments in education and teacher pay.

  • Advocated against the expansion of a landfill near an elementary school (Whitney Elementary).

  • A strong supporter of juvenile justice. 

  • Actively advocates with the community for the best interest of district 3.

  • Supported increased funding for family engagement.
